Not every article, blog post, or piece of content on a website was written and created in-house. So much of the content we read online is a result of guest posting — or guest blogging, as some might call it. That begs the question: What is the reason behind guest posting?
Guest blogging and posting are so common in online content that some people manage to make a whole career out of it.
Even brands and publications with their own writers on staff still throw a guest post or two on their website.
If so many websites make use of this phenomenon, there must be a reason.
That is why Alrika Möller from media update explains why guest posting is so popular.
What is guest posting?
When a publication or website publishes content written by someone who is not affiliated with the company, it is known as guest posting or guest blogging.
What are the reasons for guest posting?
There are many reasons to use a guest poster. Some of the most common ones include:
Reaching a Wider Audience
Having more than one writing style or take on a site will increase the number of people who will find something to read on the website or publication.
If the guest poster is someone well-known, with a built-in audience, it will also grow the existing audience of readers.
Improving SEO and SER
Guest posting improves SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), by utilising backlinks to other sites and reputable sources — depending on the guest poster.
The better the SEO, the higher the SER (Search Engine Rankings) will be and then the content will appear higher on search results.
Establishing a Reputation
When the guest blogger is a subject matter expert or thought leader, readers will end up going to a site for reputable information. Being the source of expert and informative content will give any publication or website a reputational edge.
With the amount of online content out there, every website and publication needs to do what it can to get a little boost.
