According to the duo, mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder are a serious concern that needs to be addressed.

For the Deaf community, these issues are worsened by communication barriers between themselves and those who are not hard of hearing, adds the duo.

Yellow Owl is a company that interprets digital content into South African Sign Language (SASL), while SADAG is the largest mental health support and advocacy group in the country.

"We believe this to be the first initiative of its kind to help bridge the gap by ensuring that people in the Deaf community have access to crucial information about mental health," says Yellow Owl's founder Thuli Zikalala.

"SADAG has a lot of valuable content that helps people who are suffering from mental illness and making this information more accessible to a wider community is crucial," concludes Zikalala.

Content will be shared in the form of SASL interpreted videos, covering a range of topics on depression, anxiety and suicide. The content can be accessed on the Yellow Owl and SADAG websites.
