Objectivity plays a critical role in journalism because it allows journalists to produce honest content and build trust with their readers. However, when writing news pieces, it is sometimes difficult for a journo to distinguish between reality and the personal lens of judgment through which it is viewed. This causes the lines between opinion and objectivity to quickly blur.
As mediators between the media and the public, journalists actively nurture autonomous readers. They guide these independent individuals in forming their own opinions and, therefore, they should concentrate on removing their own judgments and biases from their pieces. Easier said than done though, right?
